Additional Training Resources
TC3 not only provides technicians with excellent web-based courses that have been developed by TC3, but also provides access to other training resources that exist.
There are many good web-based classes and safety videos that have been developed by other organizations throughout the country. Most resources are free, but some may have a charge through the organization providing them. Please use this information* to assist in providing educational information to your technicians.
*TC3 does not guarantee the accuracy of the content for any courses that are not developed by TC3.
Slide-in Bridge Construction
On behalf of FHWA and Every Day Counts (EDC), the Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University has developed a series of six training courses on slide-in bridge construction (SIBC). Materials can be downloaded for individual use (see “do-it-yourself training”) or for instructor-led events. Six courses are available:
- One 4-hour overview for all audiences
- Five 1-hour short courses:
- For designers
- For construction engineers/contractors
- For owner-agencies
- Set of case studies for all audiences
- Abbreviated overview for all audiences
Slurry Seal and Chip Seal Treatments
“How to Construct High Quality Slurry Seal and Micro Surfacing Treatments” and “How to Construct High Quality Chip Seal Treatments” are free WBT training by ISSA and sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration. Learn cost-saving pavement preservation techniques that benefit your agency/organization with this training based on the “ISSA High Performance Slurry Systems Inspectors Manual,” the “ISSA Technical Bulletins,” and the “Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association’s Basic Asphalt Emulsion Manual.”
Federal-aid Essentials for Local Public Agencies
The Federal-aid Essentials website contains a resource library of informational videos and related materials. Each video addresses a single topic presented in everyday language—condensing the complex regulations and requirements of the Federal-aid Highway Program into easy-to-understand concepts and illustrated examples.
Oklahoma Highway Construction Materials Technician Certification Board
View a series of materials-testing videos covering AASHTO Test Methods for aggregate, asphalt, and concrete offered through Oklahoma DOT.
Construction Equipment Safety Videos
The Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) has created a series of safety videos with the purpose of improving safety performance.
Working safely around equipment requires planning and proper training. “CISI — Human Equipment Interface” addresses how to implement a proper safety plan in order to eliminate construction incidents.
American Concrete Paving Association
The American Concrete Pavement Association has launched two new web-based instructional modules that provide professional training about best practices for constructing smooth concrete pavements and handling aggregates for concrete paving.
Developed by ACPA with support from the Federal Highway Administration, the courses are offered free of charge to participants involved in highway and heavy construction. The courses are targeted to concrete paving contractors, agency personnel, consulting engineers, and others involved in construction management and/or concrete pavement project delivery. The courses are intended for persons with pavement construction, rehabilitation, and/or preservation experience.
NDDOT Asphalt Coring
This video demonstrates the procedure for obtaining asphalt roadway cores according to NDDOT 2 - Contractor Coring.
